EqualWeb PDF Accessibility
Make every PDF on your site fully accessible. Drop the EqualWeb script onto your page and any <a> linking to a PDF opens in a screen-reader-friendly viewer with reading tools, translation, AI-powered summaries, and a dictionary built in.
Quick Start
Add the configuration and script to your HTML page:
<script>
window.EqualwebDocs = {
serverUrl: 'https://pdf-access.equalweb.com',
userkey: 'YOUR_USER_KEY'
};
</script>
<script
src="https://pdf-access.equalweb.com/dist/1.1.0/index.min.js"
integrity="sha384-vbx1NbVYEL+6oX5uK0VwTjElVzpHFY8zGbMQ+chIhXxfmkfL1KsgfwafxAGfzQpt"
crossorigin="anonymous"
defer>
</script>
That's it. All <a> tags linking to .pdf files will automatically open in the accessible viewer modal.
Find the latest version and integrity hash at /dist/integrity.json.
See the full documentation for configuration options, custom selectors, JavaScript API, and viewer features.
How It Works
- The script registers a single delegated click listener on
document - When a click matches the PDF selector, it opens the viewer modal
- The modal loads an iframe pointing to the server's viewer route
- The server checks if a remediated (accessible) version exists
- If not found, the server uploads the PDF for processing and shows the original
- The viewer renders the document with full accessibility tools
- A status badge in the header indicates if the file is Original or Remediated
